U18 Spitfires battle to win their first league game at home

David Jackson12 Oct - 15:00

The U18 Spitfires hosted Winchester in the second Hampshire Oxfordshire and Berkshire (HOB) league game of the season.

To see how this team has grown over the past few seasons, into a group that can overcome adversity, and show such resilience is awesome and a privilege to have been a small part of.
- Jacko: HoS Girls
What a day, what a milestone! Following a hotly contested match our fantastic U18 Spitfires emerged victorious 29-22 for the first time in the HOB league and deservedly so! It is quickly becoming apparent that this is a group of players that will never give up, will fight with every ounce of strength they have for their teammates and , as always, all with a smile on their faces. Lining up against Winchester, against whom we had a bruising encounter last season, a slow start saw the opposition take the lead despite some strong periods of play from our Spitfires. The girls went into half time 5-17 down but with some really encouraging signs that the team were coming together well. The second half was a completely different story where our dominance in the scrum, epic forward carrying and scorching runs from the backs saw us put 4 tries over the line to Winchester’s 1, comfortably winning the second half. It was really pleasing to see the senior players leading from the front and special mention must go to Katie on her debut, who was picked as players player by the opposition, and to Deborah for two excellent scores. A particular mention must go to Rosie White who lead by example throughout with outstanding commitment in defence and attack. All in all, an outstanding achievement by a group of players, every one of whom gave their all and contributed to a fantastic result.
