U18 Spitfires battle Farnham in the mud in their latest league challenge.

David Jackson25 Jan - 14:46

In their latest HOB league game, the U18 Spitfires prove their resilience and spirit.

The girls should be incredibly proud of how far they have come over the season, and the standards they hold themselves to.

Farnham 37 – U18 Spitfires 24

A hard fought match in very tough conditions against Farnham allowed our fabulous Spitfires to show their incredible commitment to each other and their game once again and while we didn’t get the win, the players demonstrated that they are amongst the most competitive teams in their league. On a pitch not unlike a WW1 battlefield, with mud up to the ankles and with only 15 players available to play, our girls worked incredibly hard, showing the resilience and grit that which we know we can now take for granted.

They displayed, despite the conditions, some fabulous running rugby, defended heroically and carried the ball into the teeth of the opposition without faltering once. Some great team and individual efforts saw them score a bevy of well-deserved tries but, as ever, the most pleasing thing to see was the smiles they had on their faces throughout. A fantastic effort, particularly when you consider they were facing a c.30 strong squad at Farnham that had a lot of subs to roll in and out of the game. Heads can be held high as we continue to build an incredibly, competitive, committed and fun team.

Congratulations to Ruth Liganimeke, Rachael Jackson, Rosie White, Deborah Gauniqio for their fantastic tries, and Sophie Buck for converting two of them.

Spitfire player’s player of the match was awarded to Ruth Liganimeke, and the coach’s player of the game was Poppy Cave-Gibbs.
