U16 Spitfires Take on HOB league leaders

U16 Spitfires Take on HOB league leaders

David Jackson30 Nov - 14:00

The U16 Spitfires continue their league campaign by tackling Ellingham and Ringwood.

That was a monumental squad effort and some great experience gained.
- Ed Gairdner (U16 coach)

On Sunday 30th November 2025 the U16 Spitfires travelled to Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire (HOB) current league leaders, Ellingham and Ringwood RFC.
Hot off the back of a stunning win in their last game the team were full of morale, and ready for their next challenge.
Although E and R had the momentum in the first half, which saw them in the lead 31 – 7 going into half time, The U16 Spitfires came out fighting in the second half and showed their resilience and team spirit. They fought their way into a one point lead becoming more confident in the scrum, as well as defence showing how much they have learnt this season alone, and how much further they want to as players and as a team.

The Spitfire’s tries came from: Daisy Burden, Mai Lee, Maisie Broyd, Sophie Gout and overall player of the match Ava Potgieter scoring twice. All the tries were converted by Maisie Broyd

This saw the Spitfires bring the score back to a 4 point lea: 36 – 40.
However; E and R showed why they are the league leaders by managing to come back in the final 5 minutes with two late tries to grab a 6 point win, 46 – 40, the U16 Spitfires made them work for every point with a good mix of experience from senior players only playing in the league for their second season, and raw talent from players who have only been at the club for a matter of months

With over 30 U16 players registered at the club, the future is bright not only at this age group, but also for the U18 team in the 2026/27 season.
