After weeks of rain‑soaked pitches and frustrating postponements, the U16 Spitfires finally returned to action and they made up for lost time with a performance full of energy, resilience and emerging talent.
Despite missing several key players who were representing the Dorset & Wilts Player Development Group, the squad showed impressive adaptability. Several girls stepped confidently into new positions, using the opportunity to grow their game and support the team in true Spitfires fashion.
With Melksham travelling with only 12 players, the Spitfires’ depth was on full display as they loaned players from their 23‑strong squad to ensure a competitive and enjoyable match for everyone involved.

Two new faces made an immediate impact: Lily Wolfindale and Fifi Palmer, both marking their club debuts with superb tries: a dream start for any young player.
There were standout performances across the pitch, but special mention goes to Sophie Gout, who took on the fly‑half role for the very first time. She not only steered the attack with confidence but also crossed the line twice with two excellent individual tries.
Another milestone moment came for Rosie O’Neil, who powered over for her first ever try for the club — a brilliant reward for her hard work and persistence.
Leadership was shared seamlessly throughout the match, with Ceris‑Lily Fulton guiding the team through a strong first half before Charlotte Gairdner took the reins in the second, keeping the squad focused and organised.
The Spitfires continue to grow sharper, stronger, and more connected with every outing. Their progress will be put to the test soon, as they now look ahead to their biggest challenge of the season: a clash with top‑of‑the‑league Maidenhead on 22 February 2026.
If this performance is anything to go by, they’ll be more than ready.
Many thanks to U16 coaches, Mark, Stacey, Ed and Pete for all their hard work throughout the season in building the squad and ensuring the players are full of confidence and enthusiasm.
