Salisbury Rugby Club continued its preparations for the new campaign with a successful double-header against Andover at Castle Road, following a testing opening friendly at home to Chichester.

The first XV had lost 22-14 against Chichester on 5 September, but the match provided valuable game time before the league programme begins.

Salisbury's second XV set the tone against Andover with four first-half tries, two of them converted, to take a 24-0 lead into the break. Andover responded with two converted tries after half-time, but Salisbury regained control and crossed four more times, converting each one, to complete an entertaining 52-14 victory.

The first XV then followed with a 33-5 win. Salisbury led 14-0 at the interval through two converted tries in a hard-fought contest. A penalty try early in the second half, followed by two further tries - one converted - put the home side firmly in command before Andover scored a late unconverted consolation.

The start of the community rugby league season was delayed by the RFU because of the extreme drought, with the 2026-27 Season due to begin on 21 September. Salisbury will open their Counties 1 Tribute Ale Southern South campaign at home to North Dorset on Saturday 26 September. There is also a landmark fixture for Salisbury Women, who begin their first league season in Women's NC 3 South West when they host Andover on Sunday 27 September.
