On Sunday, Salisbury Rugby Club's newly-formed women's team played their first home match when they welcomed Petersfield to Castle Road. Salisbury made a strong start and dominated both possession and territory. Petersfield's defence was strong and they put in many monster tackles. Salisbury's pressure told and their first score came with a try from the no. 8 and captain Hayley Gedney, converted by fullback ELiza Manning.
They scored a second when Bertha Werret forced her way over between the posts, again converted by Manning, to go into half-time with Salisbury leading 14-0.
The second half saw more Salisbury pressure and a try for Laura Edwards. Manning made it three successful kicks from 3 with the conversion to leave the final score Salisbury 21 - Petersfield 0.
After the game, head coach Mark Lerpiniere said:
"I’m so proud of the team. They have really grown since we first formed in July and produced some fantastic rugby today.
"It’s a great group here that really support each other and push each other to get better. I’m really excited to see how far we can push this team.
"They have done themselves and the club proud today."
