Notes
  • These changes are in pursuit of our application to be registered by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) as a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC). There are numerous advantages to being registered as a CASC including being able to claim back tax on donations, similar to gift aid, and retaining our 100% rate relief. If interested, further information can be found at www.hmrc.gov.uk/casc.
  • The changes are by and large cosmetic and consist mainly of inserting the phrase “promote participation in the amateur sport of Rugby Union Football in the Salisbury area”. The “property and facilities” of the Club must also be used for this purpose.
  • The Articles of Association also stress the non-discriminatory nature of membership of the Club. The only substantial change to the Rules of the Club is the removal of the requirement for new members to be proposed and seconded by existing members. This was only ever regarded as necessary for new VPs and seldom if ever enforced.
  • In short, these changes will not change the way the Club is run in any substantial manner and bring several benefits. Rate relief alone is worth some £7,000 per year alone.
  • Please see the attached documents which are the current Rules as at September, 2008 and the amendments to the Rules, the Articles and the Memorandum of Association.
