News from the Annual Meeting
There are a number of elections and appointments that took place at the recent Annual Meeting.
The election of the Board for the coming year 2011/12 resulted in the following being voted in:
Martin Plimsoll (Chairman) Will Perry (Finance Board Member) Simon Hedges George Jack Dave Murley Richard West.
Thanks for given to Dave Murley for his service as Chairman, to Ben James for all his work as Director of Rugby and to Jim Olsen for his enormous contribution to the Club as Board Member responsible for the Clubhouse. The Club depends on the efforts and work of so many volunteers who give of their time and energy and these three people are illustrative of that contribution.
There are appointments that are announced annually which recognise and honour the important efforts of certain individuals. The value of the contribution that has been made over many years by Jim Olsen in a number of differing capacities, earlier as Director of Rugby and more latterly as Clubhouse Director but continuously, quietly and unspectacularly through activities such as the running of the 200 Club and the Annual Draw in addition to a range of other involvements. The Club is most grateful to Jim for all he has done and the Board therefore decided that Jim's name should be added to the special group of Honorary Life Members.
The Captain of the Club for the season 2011/12 is Neil Tonge who has been an integral part of all that happens at Salisbury RFC for more years than we care to remember. Neil is taking a step back having been responsible for the Juniors in recent years as well as being involved in all aspects of the Club. We look forward to some entertaining happenings during Neil's year as Club Captain.
The Clubman of the Year award is made to someone whose work over the past year has been of importance to the Club and this year it went to Russell Jugg to mark his huge contribution in a number of fields, as the Club's Webmaster, as the Coach of the under-10s and for his energy as Captain of the Vets and in his enthusiasm to take on the commitments of the 3rd XV and their League programme, seeing that to a successful conclusion and one that was marked by much improved playing performances and layer involvement. Russell has given much to this Club in the past but we are very impressed by all he has done this past year.
Finally, Chris Whalley was announced as the Club's new President. Chris has had a long association with the Club from his days as a player through consistent support for all we do and through a great contribution as one of the Club's longest standing sponsors. We know that we will be well served by Chris.
The new season is just over the horizon and we look forward to an exciting time with fresh challenges ahead and an excellent record over the past year to live up to.
