Salisbury to Saintes charity cycle ride
Written by Simon Hedges
Thursday, 13 May 2010 19:05

Watching the Heineken Cup Final at Salisbury RFC last May Tonger mentioned that he was looking for his next cycling challenge and that he wanted it to be in France.  The venerable Wingco challenged him to cycle to Salisbury's twin town, Saintes, and with some beer being enjoyed during the match, by the final whistle BFG and Gaulty had signed up.  The Rat was sounded out, signed up, Jeremy followed suit and "the ride" was on!  Murls and Denis were both caught at weak moments and here we are.....did anyone own a bike?

Meetings were held, maps perused, sanity questioned, the lack of bicycles addressed, a driver, Kerry, and a van arranged, and a training schedule devised and soundly ignored; except for the pub stop, purely for rehydration you understand!!

Most importantly it was decided that if seven blokes, all past the first flush of youth, of receding hair and increasing girth, were to attempt this sort of venture, 400 miles approximately, then somebody should benefit.  That somebody is The Salisbury District Hospital Stars Appeal and specifically their Caring 4 Kids initiative:

Please give us all the support you are able!  We are not doing this purely to indulge BFG's desire to dress from top to toe in Lycra or to get away from our wives, girl friends and mistresses for a week.  Please help us to reach our target.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Tonger, The Rat, Murls, Gaulty, BFG, Denis, Jeremy and Kerry (when will they get nicknames?)

Donations gratefully received at: http://www.justgiving.com/S2S2010

Terry (Ted) Taylor appointed Commercial Manager
Written by Simon Hedges

Terry (Ted) Taylor appointed Commercial Manager.

Following lengthy discussion and encouragement from the RFU to develop the commercial aspects of rugby, the board of Salisbury Rugby Club have appointed Ted as Commercial Manager of the Club.

It was decided to utilise Ted's background in commerce and business to head-up an initiative to develop the commercial potential of the Club. His 8 years of experience running the bars and function room as well as his contacts gained working with the RFU and Dorset and Wilts make him an ideal candidate to take us forward commercially.

He will be responsible for promoting sponsorship, functions, events, membership, spectators and will look to work with closely with the volunteers at the club who may also cover these functions.

Please welcome him into his new role and give him as much support and encouragement as you can, Ted said, "I am a true fan of Salisbury Rugby Club and I am very pleased to take up the challenge to increase membership, supporters and sponsors, encourage more use of the Clubs assets and give support to all of our valuable volunteers. If anyone connected to the Club needs help with a project or has a good idea, please call me to discuss it."

"Good luck Ted" - from all of the members of the board.
