1st XV

The 1st XV were unbeaten, scored over 1000 points and only a draw with Oldfield Old Boys prevented them from making it 22 wins from 22 matches.  The foundations for this success were laid during the Club's pre-season work. Head Coach, Mark Bugden and his assistants Derek Phillimore and Martin Stocker guided a squad of over 40 players through rigorous preparation and pre-season wins over Gosport & Fareham and Oakmeadians. When Salisbury commenced full league action their superiority in fitness, skill and pace became very apparent with convincing wins over Frome and Sherborne. September concluded with a testing win over North Dorset and by that stage Salisbury's true potential had emerged. Skipper, Liam Gilbert ably spearheaded a mobile and efficient pack which supplied plenty of ball for an ambitious and creative back line.

Further victories followed throughout October. Oldfield Old Boys challenged Salisbury at home but the hosts prevailed 44 -22. Marlborough were unable to compete and were completely outclassed losing by 83 - 0. Salisbury overcame Trowbridge in an ill-tempered encounter but played at greater tempo to win 28 - 5. This was then followed by merciless 97 - 0 rout of Bradford on Avon.

Disappointingly only one match was played in November and none in December. A combination bad weather and league disruption provided an unwelcome break in the season. The disruption affected Salisbury's performance early in the New Year, It took a number of matches for them to recover their fluency. They managed a narrow win over North Dorset at home and drew away to Oldfield. It was, however, clear that the cobwebs had been blown away by the time Marlborough visited Castle Road; they conceded 105 unanswered points.

Once Salisbury got past a difficult away fixture at Trowbridge winning 24 - 0 in the first weekend in February, an unbeaten season looked like a distinct possibility. They remained consistent and true to Mark Bugden's direction to play "heads-up" rugby. In their remaining 9 matches, Salisbury averaged 48 points a match and conceded only 70 points in total.

Salisbury also head the Southern Counties (South) league statistics tables. Wing Tom Pottage and fly half Rory Davis are the top 2 point scorers and kickers. Whilst Salisbury players occupy the top six try scoring slots in the following order; Tom Pottage (29), Liam Gilbert (17), Phil Carr (16), James Kay (14), Dave Thorpe (12) and Simon Smith (10).

Greater challenges now lie ahead in South West 1 East next season but with this performance level it is clear that Salisbury are going to be highly competitive.

2nd XV

The 2nd XV have dominated Dorset & Wilts 2 South losing only one match to close rivals Ellingham & Ringwood. Their success is founded on a commitment to play open running rugby, strong leadership from skipper Tom Buckingham and an effective blend of young and old players. Travis Bartels has been highly effective at centre with ball in hand and with the boot, Chris Miller's pace has provided some clinical finishing and a mobile committed pack has provided ample possession. Tom Buckingham is justifiably pleased with the season stating that "after a slow start we found our confidence and came together. Our dedication has shown through and the boys have delivered a great season".  They finished the season in style with a convincing win over Weymouth in the Dorset & Wilts Shield final by 50 - 0. The 2nd XV can clearly feel confident about their return to Dorset & Wilts South 1.
