  Home win: 33 - 26

Salisbury 3rd XV continued their strong start to 2010 with a hard fought win against high-flying Ellingham & Ringwood's 2nd XV. This was a hotly-contested match with neither side willing to yield possession easily.

Salisbury started the brightest with some excellent work up-front, the forwards created quick ball allowing their increasingly confident backs to start a move from their own 10 and ending with Ratu scoring to the right of the posts. Almost immediately from the kick off a great break from O'Connor led to a penalty from debutant Taff Reed to follow up his conversion of Ratu's try.

At 10 up with 10 minutes gone, E&R seemed to wake up and, after a period of pressure, finally broke through to score in the corner. However, aided by some weak tackling and poor discipline by E&R, Salisbury were able to add a further try after another fine breakout from the full-back, Rocky, quickly followed by a debut try for Reed after the forwards turned the ball over near the E&R line. With Salisbury now 20-5 up, E&R stepped up their game again adding a converted try before the interval.

E&R started the strongest in the second half with their scrum-half darting through to score twice in the first 10 minutes to take a narrow lead. Salisbury had to absorb a period of sustained pressure, but through strong work by the forwards and some tenacious tackling in the backs they were able to break up the attacking moves. As the game developed, the guests were becoming increasingly frustrated and started to argue amongst themselves allowing Salisbury to retake the initiative.

Another fine move between the backs, following a great turnover by the pack and yet more quick ball, allowed Ratu to complete his hat-trick with 10 minutes of the match remaining. With the game in the balance, E&R tried to hold on to their lead but Salisbury's forwards showed the greater desire and forced the visiting pack into several errors.

With 3 minutes to go, Taff Reed cleverly released the backs by running a penalty from the half-way line that the visitors were expecting to be kicked to touch, Rocky finished off the move to complete an outstanding 33-26 win for the home team against the second placed team in the league.
