2nd_xv_vs_south wilts_2011_03_26_stockerWith 1st team promotion secured Salisbury RFC's attention is now focussed on the 2nd XV's performance in Dorset & Wilts 2. An emphatic 52 - 0 home win over South Wilts brings them closer to emulating the 1st XV and securing promotion to Dorset & Wilts 1. Salisbury quickly established their superiority over their local rivals with deft handling, pace and excellent support play. They were rewarded on 7 minutes when centre Bartels touched down having exploited the visitor's poorly organised defence. He added the extras and the hosts looked confident. South Wilt's weighty scrummage troubled Salisbury throughout the match but they countered this with greater general mobility and further tries for Stocker, Miller (2) and Murrell resulted. Bartels added to South Wilt's woes with 3 conversions to enable Salisbury to establish a 31 - 0 half time lead.

Injuries, frequent team changes and the occasional disciplinary incident resulted in a badly fragmented second period. Despite this the hosts notched up a further 21 points with two trys for second row Goss and a further try and 3 more conversions for Bartels giving him a personal tally of 22 points. There were also strong performances from the half back pairing of Rayner at scrum half and skipper Tom Buckingham who distributed possession effectively creating space out wide. Given this performance Salisbury can feel confident about staying top of the league and winning their remaining two fixtures against Dorchest 2nd XV and Wheatsheaf Cabin Crew.

Team: Thomas S, Miller, Bartels, Mclennan, Knight, Buckingham (Capt), Rayner, Cobb, Stocker (pictured in possession), Ward, Moseley, Goss, Thursby, Waters, Murrell. Subs: Biggins, Blockhouse and Thomas N.
