1st_xv_vs_marlborough_2010_10_09_roeSalisbury travelled to Marlborough on Saturday and made it five wins from five starts when they overwhelmed the newly promoted league strugglers 83 - 0. Despite further disruption to the back line, it didn't take Salisbury long to find their rhythm and fluency. Credit must, however, go to Marlborough. Despite the disparity between the two sides, they stuck to the task. They are just beginning to find their feet in Southern Counties and fielded a sturdy pack and a backline willing to have a crack at the visitors but simply couldn't match Salisbury for pace, skill and fitness. Once in their stride, Salisbury maintained a constant flow of points finishing the first half 34 - 0 up.

Phil Carr played his first full game at full back and Richard Roe (pictured) moved into the centre. Both players settled to the task quickly. Carr relished the opportunity to attack from deep and Roe continually tested the hosts' defence. The visitors' back row of Hamish Morton, James Kay and Dave Salomon (replaced by Bertie Jones on 54 minutes) were busy throughout providing continuity between forwards and backs. Second row pairing Liam Gilbert and Dave Thorpe were formidable often spearheading the attack. Half backs Dave Tonge and Rory Davis combined well throughout. Davis utilised a glut of possession efficiently and Tonge was a constant threat. Wing Tom Pottage once again made a hefty contribution with 2 trys and 9 conversions.

In sum, this was an impressive display from Salisbury marred only by the occasional handling error. They sustained effort for a full 80 minutes and combined well as a team. Salisbury have clearly mastered the "off-load" which has enabled them to get behind defences and maintain momentum this season. They will take a break from league action next Saturday to travel to Swindon in the first round of the Dorset & Wilts Cup.

Try scorers were Phil Carr (2), Tom Pottage (2), Richard Roe (2), Michael Daniels, Liam Gilbert (2), Dave Thorpe (3) and James Kay.

Team: Phil Carr, Tom Pottage, Richard Roe, Andrew Herriot, Drew White, Rory Davis, David Tonge, Michael Daniels, Luke Esnouf, Richard West, Liam Gilbert (Capt), Dave Thorpe, Dave Salomon, James Kay and Hamish Morton. Subs: Bertie Jones, George Morgan and Simon Smith.
