1st_xv_vs_dorchester_2011_04_09_roeSalisbury hosted Dorchester in the penultimate match of their league campaign on Saturday. Bright and dry conditions helped both sides play adventurous and entertaining rugby but it was Salisbury who dominated eventually winning by 50 - 0, leaving only another 21 points required to make it a 1000 this season.

Despite the score-line it wasn't one-way traffic. Dorchester's scrummage troubled the hosts initially and it wasn't until the 10th minute that Salisbury hooker Gareth Blackborow charged over having gathered a loose ball close the opposition try line. Undeterred the visitors came back at Salisbury but were unable to penetrate their well marshalled and aggressive defence. The visitors extended their lead on 20 minutes when Josh Green broke from a scrum to make the line. With a 10 - 0 lead Salisbury began to up the pace. Strong running from skipper Liam Gilbert created a try for James Kay 2 minutes later and Gilbert added a try of his own on 40 minutes. Rory Davis added two conversions during the first half and the hosts established a comfortable 24 - 0 lead.

The hosts opened the second period with a superb try for wing Phil Carr on 47 minutes. Davis added the extras and with the score at 31 - 0 the match became a little fragmented, inaccurate handling often preventing either side generating any momentum. Salisbury eventually got back onto the front-foot on 71 minutes when, having kicked a penalty to the corner, the pack drove over from the lineout for Rich West to make the touch down. With a commanding 36 - 0 lead, the hosts then finished in style with well executed try for Ollie Pickford and a second for Carr. Davis and Tom Pottage added the conversions to bring up the half-century.

Only Frome can now prevent Salisbury from completing an unbeaten season when they host the league champions on Saturday.
