Devizes vs Salisbury away 29th Jan 2012
Salisbury Ladies faced old rivals Devizes once again this weekend in a toughly contested match. Salisbury answered the home team's first try with an excellent run of backs play leading to a try by Jess Hinton. Converted by Louise Doherty. Salisbury kept fighting to the last of the first half, and it finished at 7 a piece. Scrums were tough in the muddy ground and a crunching tackle early in the second half left Salisbury ladies one player down, with no subs available. Salisbury were unable to keep their focus in the second half and allowed 2 tries through. They showed strong play in the final 10 minutes, but it was too late with the final score 19-7 to Devizes. The ladies play next on 19th February, home to Westbury. |

Having been defeated by Devizes on two occasions last season, the third showdown on home turf for the Salisbury ladies was a hotly faught one on Sunday, 30th October. In the first 15 minutes it seemed an evenly-matched game, however, until the power of the Salisbury pack lead to injury of the Devizes front row, and they were forced to go to uncontested scrums. With strong line-outs from the girls in green and some excellent rucking phases, the first try was laid down by Lucy Davis. This opened the flood-gates as the ladies brought three more tries from Gemma David, Megan Stocker and Louise Doherty. An un-breakable defense and and excellent work at the break-down allowed the backs to work the over-lap and slot the tries in with ease. Two conversions left the score at half-time at 24-0 to the Salisbury Ladies. Unfortunately, due to a serious injury of a Devizes player, the game had to be abandoned, but the ladies left proud having not conceded a single point since the start of the season. Their next game will be at home to Totton on 20th Nov |
Salisbury Rugby Club's ladies team suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday 20th Nov, when Totton came to visit. Honours were even in the first half with two tries and a conversion apiece for 12 points all. Salisbury's tries were scored by captain Louise Doherty and the conversion was by Trina Layfield. Totton were well-organised and strong, and playing down the slope in the second half they upped the aggression and scored three further tries, two converted, without reply for a final score of Salisbury 12, Totton 31. Salisbury's next game is away to Devizes on 11th. September. After the Christmas break they have two home games in January, against Fordingbridge on the 15th and Southampton on the 29th. The ladies won their fifth game of the season 30-5 on 11th Dec 2011. Three tries came from Gemma David following brilliant runs up the wing from our own half each time. Second try of the game came after Devizes failed to collect the ball after a kick-off and Louise Doherty footballed it the length of the pitch to expertly land it right between the posts. Another run down the wing scored the third try and the match finished with Lucy Davis powering through the Devizes defence to get the final try. |
