Home Juniors Match Reports U13 vs Bournemouth - 31 Oct 10
U13 vs Bournemouth - 31 Oct 10
The whole available squad travelled down to the coast to play their old rivals on a very mild and fine morning.   After finding our allotted changing room and then the allotted key to go with it we all got changed ready for the mornings work. Twenty seven boys travelled, twenty eight if you count Tobias who came down on one leg just to watch.

The first game was the crunch, A’s v A’s. Although we were missing a few players Salisbury were always confident that they had enough fire power to trouble any defence provided they got some ball. This did indeed turn out to be the case  as good possession was retained and then fed out to winger Tom Lewis who ran in three tries by half time, one of which was converted by Edward Crossley.

The second half was a little more even as Bournemouth had a slight wind and slope at their backs. However Salisbury tackled like demons and kept a clean sheet, always satisfying for the coaches especially as we have made them do lots of tackling practice recently. However two more tries were scored one from Tom again, who could have scored more but his team mates were under instruction to run after him rather than just stand and watch him go, and fellow winger Harry Pizzey also got in on the act giving us a final scoreline of 27-0 in Salisbury’s favour.

I would just like to mention Robert Crossley our hooker who not only had a try disallowed but did not get to try his new moves at the lineout as there weren’t any all game.

The next game was for the players not involved in the first and the team then made up around them. Bournemouth were smarting for a win of any sort and took an early lead and were 10 points up at half time. Again very pleasing from the coaches perspective Salisbury dug deep and  tries from Hamish Lorimer, playing on the wing and Jack Busby forgetting he is now a second row, running half the length of the field to score near the posts. Both converted by Ollie Blandford  gave Salisbury a well deserved lead 12-10. Bournemouth were not to be outdone and slowly ground their way down field and eventually over the line for a converted try to retake the lead with  huge cheers from the home support. Again Salisbury were not there to make up the numbers everyone dug deep, none more so than some of the quieter players, Cameron Stott had a storming run upfield to set up a ruck and Dillon Tinzang looked where have you been hiding up for the action always good to see. The pressure eventually told and it was the new boy Jack where have you been hiding Busby who again ran from midfield to score the decisive try next to the posts.

Final score Salisbury 21 Bournemouth 17

Very well done by everybody and also for behaving like real gentlemen in the clubhouse afterwards.
