Wooten Basset v Salisbury
Wiltshire Cup U 13 Salisbury got off to a right Royal start with Chris Nichols going over after excellent forward play in the maul.Shortly after Caden Murley broke through the line at pace but came up just short of the line. This was during a very sustained period of occupancy by the Salisbury team in their opponents half. Callum Mactaggart was soon weaving his magic as he slalomed though Wooten Basset to put down under the post. Both tries were efficiently converted by captain Sam Bradby Jarod Cardew Archie Mcewan,George Diaper, PipAllison Josh Trowern, Chris Nichols and Jamie Ellis all making excellent yardage. Sam B went on a blistering blindside run. Ball knocked on by WB and from the resulting very controlled Srum Chris N has a dart for the line. Halted the forwards arrive too late, penalty for holding on. Maybe Salisbury switched off as for all the possession they then wanted to test themselves with a series of penalties right under their own post. The referee led us to believe that the offender was our No 12 but after further investigation Mr Murley held up his hand. Defending superbly and in numbers Salisbury did not concede. Moments later Toby Arnold goes through powerfully and think he's scored but is called back for an infringement. However, it is not long before Callum MacTaggart is bursting over to score again after a series of excellent rucks by the Salisbury forwards. Chris plays crossbar challenge and narrowly misses the conversion. Bad luck and a good effort. Half Time WB 0 Salisbury 19 Four Changes to the Salisbury 15 at half time WB start swiftly and Toby Arnold makes a try saving tackle. Not sure why penalty given. PIP Allison in the thick of the action as always and provides Jamie Ellis with a good ball giving Jamie the opportunity to have another good run. Solid defence by Charlie Gentleman, Patrick and Loxley before Josh Trowern goes off on another fabulously powerful run, supported by Toby Arnold and George Diaper. The home team defending much better this half. Chris intercepts, chips thru then unfortunately knocks on just short of the line. However, not long before normal business is resumed with Toby A punching thru the Wooten defence to touch down. Archie McEwan very powerful run supported by his ever eager pack. Another too by Josh T and Pip. Sam Bradbury still very much dictating proceedings behind the very dominant Salisbury pack. At times even wrestling with No8 Chris at the back of the scrum such was their eagerness to both stretch their leggs. Sam breaks passes to George D good line, forwards arrive swiftly and Toby A held up trying to go over. Quick ball by the captain to Chris who almost makes the line. Jamie liberates the ball from Chris to finish the move off with a score. Poor kick off by WB not going 10 metres. Another excellent Green Scrum followed by a familiar run from SB setting up play that reaches Loxley who threatened down the wing. After several passages of strong Salisbury play Chris scores his second try. Very good performance by the team and great start to their WC campaign. Final score WB 0 Salisbury 34 Tries: Taggy 2, Chris 2, Toby Arnold 1, J Ellis 1 |
