Home Juniors Match Reports Salisbury RFC U15 Crowned Dorset & Wiltshire Champions.
Salisbury RFC U15 Crowned Dorset & Wiltshire Champions.

Salisbury Rugby U15 squad followed up their Wiltshire Division One title last week with a dominant display in the Dorset & Wilts Cup Final at Marlborough on Sunday to take the title for the third time.

The Dorset Champions, North Dorset started well but Salisbury's swarming defence soon pinned the Dorset side into their own 25 and following a penalty and a series of powerful rucks, flanker Joey Goldsmith punched over for the opening score from a couple of metres out.

Dominant forward and back play soon saw Salisbury extend the lead. Following a clearance kick by the North Dorset Fly Half which did not quite make touch, Man of the Match, Salisbury's Full Back, Will Bailey beat three defenders down the left wing as he returned the miss-kick with gusto. He was eventually tackled 10m out but some quick recycling and support work gave Jacob White the ball to muscle over from 10m. 10-0 and that remained the score until half time.
After the turnaround Salisbury's dominance continued with attack after attack repelled by some stout defending by the North Dorset team, however the continued pressure finally led to their flanker being sin binned for repeated offences and North Dorset would now need to repel the onslaught a man down.  Salisbury pressed their advantage and a fine charge by replacement prop Dan Pinhorn saw them within 2m of the Dorset line from where it was a simple pick up and drive for second row Rob Tomkies to extend the lead further.
Salisbury's power showed again just as the 10 minute Sin Bin was due to end with Will Homer beating several defenders to score under the posts from about 10m out, he converted his own try for a game winning final score of 22-0.
The North Dorset players did not give up throughout the game, and kept trying to lift their side with exceptional work by Will Newland, Jack Bridger and Dom Salzano but Salisbury always looked in control and deserved champions.
