A Very Warm Welcome to
Salisbury RFC is an amateur club with five senior sides competing in the RFU league structure, the First XV at South West Two level.
Our main aim is to be a centre of excellence while providing rugby for all in our community at an affordable cost to everyone, irrespective of age, gender, ability or ethnic background. As such, we offer rugby starting at age 6/7 for our youngest Minis, and continue through Midis, Juniors and Colts and on to the senior sides including our esteemed Veterans while not forgetting the Girls and Ladies. We cater for them all in a desire to enable all sides, and the individuals in them, to play the game at the highest possible level.
Our excellent Youth Development Programme (YDP) produces a constant flow of players who go on to win representative honours. Their shirts are on display in the Tony Murley Room, dedicated to a former Player, Chairman and President, and in pride of place are the British Lions and England shirts won by the recently retired Richard Hill and the Lions and England shirts gained by Richard Hill scrum-half and England Captain. Meanwhile, the best team achievement in our history has to be our 2004-2005 Under 17’s, who, in that year, won the RFU Under 17s National KO Cup.
Salisbury has no immediate plans to turn professional; nevertheless, having lost in the South West Two play-off against Barnstaple, our declared objective is to gain promotion to South West One next season. As such, the extended retention of former YDP players is fundamental and, whenever and wherever practical, the Club will assist young players up at university or working away from home with travel expenses. We recognise this will impose a significant financial burden on the Club and, therefore, are actively pursuing greater corporate sponsorship. A new web site with the added facility for sponsors’ advertising is a reflection of our new approach. Meanwhile, we thank all those companies and individuals who have, and continue to support our endeavours.
To allow us to trade more widely, we are now a limited liability company and the Clubhouse has seen further refurbishment. It offers an excellent venue for social events staged throughout the year and, of these, our Vice Presidents Lunches are a supreme example of conviviality, hospitality and friendship of which we are justly proud. Additionally, outside bookings for Weddings, Birthday and Anniversary parties together with corporate functions are increasing apace.
All in all, the Club is succeeding both on and off the pitch and has plans to progress still further. Therefore, whether you are a player or rugby supporter, may we invite you to join us. Finally, may I thank you for visiting our website, and whoever or wherever you are, a very warm welcome awaits you if you are able to visit the clubhouse, the very heart of Salisbury RFC
