Coaching Rugby Union At Salisbury RFC PDF Print E-mail
Coaching is possibly the most important role at any Rugby Club. It is both the central activity supporting the players and preparing them for matches, but also a crucial factor in developing, sustaining and increasing participation in rugby union, securing the future and quality of the game.

At Salisbury we take the role of the Coach very seriously. Not only because of the importance in developing our Rugby players and in turn supporting the broader game, but also because the Coach is responsible for the safety and welfare of all players under their charge.

In recognition of this, Salisbury RFC encourages and offers financial support, to anyone wishing to become one of its coaches.

“Anybody can try and coach rugby, but to be an effective coach, you will need to fulfil a number of different roles and accept a variety of responsibilities, covering the technical, tactical, physical and mental aspects demanded by our game. The player management and understanding personalities part of coaching should also never be underestimated and must be recognised by the coach as part of the role.

In my opinion there also needs to be a personal desire and motivation not only to succeed with your team but also to see your players develop their abilities. There is nothing more rewarding post playing than seeing a player or team succeed using whatever intervention you are trying to develop.”

Don Parsons, 1st XV Head coach, D & W Asst Forwards Coach and former SRFC & D & W 1st XV Captain

Our philosophy is pure and simple: children fun at Salisbury RFC and help them to become as good a rugby player as possible.
