Coaching Courses and Development PDF Print E-mail
  The RFU have a Development pathway that offers and delivers coaching courses through its network of Rugby Development Officers.  Beginning with the Tag Rugby course, you can then begin to take the RFU qualifications from Level 1 up to Level 4.

RFU Qualification Courses
  • Refereeing (aimed at Referees working at all age-groups)
  • Level 1 (aimed at coaches working under the guidance of a head coach)
  • Level 2 (aimed at head coaches working with Junior &/or Youth players).
  • Level 3 (aimed at head coaches working with Adult teams or Junior &/or Youth representative players).
  • Level 4 (aimed at Professional coaches).

Applying for a Course
Details of the courses are available from the RFU at - www.rfu.com/TakingPart/Coach and specific courses for the Southern area can be found here

Before applying for a course, please send notification to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We will give you information on how to apply to the RFU and how to receive a refund from Salisbury RFC upon completing the course.

Developing as a Coach
It is important to continue learning, experimenting and improving as a coach. Courses are available from different sources to assist in this:

a. The RFU in conjunction with the Local Authority Sports Departments, run a number of courses such as;
  • Safeguarding children
  • First aid
b. Continuous Development Courses are run and organised by the RFU. These are the primary method for helping coaches improve their knowledge and experience outside the formal qualifications. To attend Level 2, you will need to show evidence of attending these courses

c. Salisbury RFC hold their own Coach Development Sessions

But we also hope you are ambitious in terms of Coaching Salisbury RFC’s older age-groups, including the Colts and Senior XVs whose coaches are appointed by the Coaching sub-committee. Other opportunities can also be found within representative rugby, so try the following link to Dorset & Wilts RFU - http://clubs.rfu.com/Clubs/portals/dw/CoachingOpportunities.aspx
